Can we all agree that spending time by the lake is not only fun, but also beneficial to our overall well-being? As summer concludes and school is back in session, there’s always time to squeeze in one last trip out to that favorite watering hole. The lake is the perfect place to chillax with friends and family, unwind from the daily grind, and cool down from the heat.

The chair of Environment and Human Health at the University of Exeter Medical School in England states, “There is a clear correlation between close proximity to a body of water and better psychological and overall health outcomes.”

You must admit, there’s something peaceful and nostalgic about hanging out at the lake. The minute you sit on the dock and put your feet in the water, it instantly puts you in a relaxed mood. The saying “life is better at the lake” has never been a truer statement.

Before the sun sets on another summer, head out to one of Texas’ 7,000 lakes for one last dip.

Make sure to gather up some friends, apply some SPF, pack some ice-cold beverages, and play our newest Spire on Spotify Playlist from Account Supervisor Angie Vasquez. Her summer homage to H2O is called Vol. 28: Lakin’ It Easy.

What is the name of your album?

My playlist is called “Lakin’ It Easy.” It’s a perfect mix of songs for hanging out with family and friends that everyone can sing along to. There’s a splash of something for everyone.

How would you describe this mix?

This playlist showcases some of my favorite lake tunes spanning several decades—from the 80s to present. It’s designed to help you relax, unwind, and get you pumped for your next lakeside adventure. There are songs you can sing and dance to while on the boat or floating in the lake.

What was the inspiration behind it?

It pays to have friends with a lake house. I love taking out the boat and finding the perfect spot to anchor and then blast the music. Our collective musical tastes are diverse, so I wanted to create something that caters to that. Every lake day needs a stellar playlist and a cold drink in hand.

What is your favorite song, and why?

That’s a tough one because I like them all. Since this playlist has so many different genres, I’m going to pick two.
My first pick is “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga. It’s a house-infused dance-pop song that has so much energy. I love anything by Lady Gaga, but this song always gets me moving.

The second one is “Pontoon” by Little Big Town. This is the perfect boating song. It’s so fun to sing along with the lyrics: “Out here in the open … Mmmmmmmmmm motorboating.”

If your playlist was a brand, what would it be and why?

If my playlist was a brand, it would be a Bennington Pontoon boat. It’s a luxury pontoon boat designed to ensure you stay in the water longer—perfect for entertaining friends and family on the lake.

Any specific memory that comes to mind when you listen?

Our friends host a lake weekend every year at Cypress Springs Lake. Everyone packs up their kiddos and heads to the waterfront (roughly eight adults and 14 teenagers). The kids get to play with all the water toys, like jet skis, and spend time tubing, wakeboarding, floating, etc. But the best part is toward the later part of the afternoon when the adults get to sneak away and head to the marina for some food and drinks. We take a dip in the water and have our playlist blaring.

What makes your playlist unique?

It’s a diverse playlist that will keep you guessing as to which song is coming next. When you’re at the lake it’s impossible to get bored with a bad-ass playlist.

Thanks for your pontoon-inspired playlist, Angie. While Texas lakes may be low this summer, your tunes will definitely buoy any lake trip. Stay tuned to the Spire Blog and Spotify Channel for the release of our next chill playlist.
