The holiday season is here, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with music that brings people together and creates cherished memories. Whether you’re hosting festive gatherings or enjoying quiet nights by the fire, holiday music has a way of weaving traditions that connect us to the magic of the season.
Curated by Chief Creative Officer Kimberly Tyner, Vol. 57: Jingle Jams blends modern holiday hits with timeless classics to create the perfect festive vibe for any occasion.
Kimberly, how would you describe this mix?
This mix combines timeless holiday traditions with modern festive cheer, weaving together beloved carols and soulful classics with upbeat, contemporary Christmas hits. It’s ideal for cozying up by the fire, trimming the tree, or hosting a cheerful holiday gathering.
What was the inspiration behind it?
The playlist was inspired by my love for modern holiday tunes that bring fresh energy to the season, paired with timeless classics that evoke the warmth and nostalgia of the holidays. It’s a celebration of the songs that make this time of year feel magical.
What are your favorite songs, and why?
There are so many favorites! I love “The Man with All the Toys” by The Beach Boys and “Merry Christmas” by Ed Sheeran and Elton John for their playful, festive vibes and nostalgic yet upbeat twists. For traditional songs, “Carol of the Bells” has been a favorite since my youth; it’s timeless and beautifully captivating.
If your playlist was a brand, what would it be and why?
If this playlist were a brand, it would be the Coca-Cola polar bear—classic, heartwarming, and universally loved, with a modern, refreshing twist that makes the holidays feel magical and fun.
Any specific memory that comes to mind when you listen?
I love playing holiday music for the first time each year while decorating. Over the past 20 years, I’ve collected ornaments from every trip I’ve taken, and unpacking them brings back wonderful memories. It’s a special tradition I enjoy while sipping hot chocolate or cider and listening to my favorite holiday tunes.
What makes your playlist unique?
You won’t hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” unless you survive all four hours—because it’s the very last song (you’re welcome or I’m sorry, depending on your mood). And guess what? No Springsteen either (sorry, Bruce!). If you’re craving a more traditional vibe, feel free to make a copy, sprinkle in Mariah and Bruce every 12 songs, and voilà—you’ll feel like you’re mall shopping or stuck in holiday traffic listening to the radio!
That’s a holiday wrap, Kimberly! Stay tuned to the Spire Blog and Spotify Channel for the release of our next playlist.
