Mystery is in the air this Halloween season. From binge-worthy podcasts to page-turning novels and cinematic thrillers, there’s something undeniably captivating about spooky stories that keep us guessing. The twists, the turns, the suspense—it’s all part of the fun. And no good mystery is complete without that lingering question: Who “dun” it?
If your lights flicker and a chill runs down your spine, don’t worry—it’s not something lurking in the shadows. You’re just tuned in to our newest Spire on Spotify playlist, Vol. 62: Whodunit. It’s a perfectly eerie soundtrack for late-night brainstorming sessions, long commutes through the fog, or any moment that calls for a little suspense and atmosphere.
Alex, what is the name of your album?
Whodunit is the name of the album. Wikipedia defines the word as, “a complex, plot-driven variety of detective fiction in which the puzzle regarding who committed the crime is the main focus.”
How would you describe this mix?
This album is an eclectic mix of songs that are mysterious, ethereal, or spooky. It’s a good playlist to put on in the background while you play the game Clue or put up the decorations for a Halloween party.
What was your inspiration behind it?
With Halloween right around the corner, the timing is right for a good, spooky playlist. It seemed appropriate to cycle through the tracks and pull together a collection that screams “murder mystery.” If you’re looking for something different in your Halloween playlist other than “Thriller” and the “Halloween” movie theme song, then this is it.
What is your favorite song, and why?
Patsy Cline’s Crazy is a good one, and a bit unexpected. It may seem just wistful and sad, but can you hear the darker edge in her haunting vocals? It could be a story of someone veering between heartbreak and revenge—definitely worthy of a suspenseful, mysterious playlist.
“Quietly he laughs and shaking his head creeps closer now closer to the foot of the bed.“
– Lullaby, The Cure
If your playlist was a product, what would it be and why?
Easy: Clue. Every song is a suspect. Some sound innocent, some raise eyebrows, but they all build that delicious tension of not knowing who (or what) comes next.
Any specific memory that comes to mind when you listen?
Not particularly. So, there’s no better time than now to make memories while you give it a listen!
What makes your playlist unique?
There are plenty of playlists to choose from this month, and sure, some beloved classics are back in rotation. But this album hits a bit different, leaning into the season with themed tunes that just may surprise you (boo!). Who puts a ska song on a Halloween mystery playlist? We do.
Thanks for that spooky mix, Alex. Stay tuned to the Spire Blog and Spotify Channel for our next agency playlist.
