April is finally—and yet, somehow, already—upon us. ‘Tis the season for warmer weather and the debilitating spring allergies that come with it. For those of us who are in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, we are all too familiar with the tumultuous weather over the past few weeks. And after a long and colder-than-usual winter season, it’s safe to say most Texans are craving a little heat.

Ready for some warmer weather, or are you looking to turn up the heat yourself? Then pump up the volume with Vol. 23: Heat Waves from Account Supervisor Julia Cardali.

Julia, what is the name of your album?

I’m calling Spire’s newest playlist Vol. 23: Heat Waves. It’s a compilation of fuego songs that are sure to turn up the heat.

How would you describe this mix?

Heat Waves is a playlist that you can listen to as you’re driving in your convertible with the top down (or, in my case, a Mazda with the sunroof open), or turn on while indulging in a bit of spring cleaning to drown out the sound of sniffles from accumulated dust bunnies. (I’m definitely not speaking from experience.)

What was the inspiration behind it?

The inspiration behind my playlist is springtime. Spring is an exciting season as the days get longer and brighter … and eventually, it leads to summer. It’s my hope that this playlist can be used as an end of Q1/beginning of Q2 escape, especially if you weren’t able to jet off to anywhere warm or fun for a little spring break this year.

What is your favorite song, and why?

My favorite song on this playlist is “Breathe (In The Air)” by Pink Floyd. Those of you who know my true musical taste know that I am a classic rocker, first and foremost. That said, Pink Floyd is one of my all-time favorite bands. Furthermore, “Breathe” is an ironic pick for this particular playlist, since I cannot, in fact, breathe during the spring season without the help of my cherished friends named Zyrtec, Claritin, and Flonase, to name a few.

Another favorite of mine is a song that needs no introduction on this playlist, “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals. Not only is this song the namesake of the playlist, but it’s new, sounds fresh, and feels very “spring-y” to me.

If your playlist was a brand, what would it be and why?

If my playlist was a brand, it would be Chobani. The recently refreshed brand promotes wellness and has a modern-meets-classic, natural look and feel. The new packaging features fresh fruit ingredients that are vibrant in color, which reminds me of spring.

Any specific memory that comes to mind when you listen?

One specific memory comes to mind when I hear the song “Vivir Mi Vida – Versión Pop” by Marc Anthony. During spring break in my senior year of college, I went to Cabo San Lucas with a group of friends. Every day, twice a day, the resort we were staying at would play this song and have employees perform a choreographed dance to it by the pool. Obviously, I learned the dance.

What makes your playlist unique?

Though there are some classics—dare I say “oldies”—a lot of this playlist is composed of newer music, encouraging calming vibes from beginning to end no matter the song.

Thanks, Julia. We’re now officially ready to crank the volume and the heat with this fuego playlist. Stay tuned to the Spire Blog and Spotify Channel for the release of our next hot album.
